Yankees end regular season with 6-3 loss to Jammers, prepare for the Cyclones Thursday

Staten Island, NY – The Yankees closed out their regular season with a 6-3 loss to Jamestown Wednesday night.  Staten Island finishes the season with a 48-28 mark, the best in the team’s three-year history.

With the win, the Jammers clinched the final playoff spot in the Pinckney Division.

The Yankees and Jammers traded runs in each of the second and fourth innings.  Jamestown plated one run in the top of the second, while the Yankees responded with an RBI single by Andy Cannizaro to knot the score.  The Jammers added two more in the fourth, followed by two RBI walks by the Baby Bombers’ Omir Santos and Bernie Castro.

Jamestown pulled ahead for good in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Jose Salas.  They added two more in the top of the eighth for a 6-3 lead.

Staten Island was powered by a 2-for-3 night by Andy Cannizaro.  He scored once.

Jason Smith suffered the loss.  The game-winning pitcher in the decisive game three of the GCL Championships gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits, striking out six in six innings pitched.

Staten Island will host Brooklyn Thursday in game one of the McNamara Division series at 7:35 p.m.  Staten Island has a season record of 2-6 against Brooklyn.  Games two and three (if necessary) will be played at Coney Island.  John Blankenship (4-0) will take on Luz Portobanco (5-3).
