HITTING COACH

Born: 11/9/54, Oxnard, CA

Resides: Carmichael, CA               

This is Higgins' third season as the team¦s hitting/first base coach.  He was part of the 2000 NY-Penn League Championship coaching staff.  Last season, under Higgins' guidance, the Baby Bombers lived up to their nickname with a franchise-high .265 batting average.  In addition, the team was second in league batting for the season and had several players figure in the league's top 10 in hitting categories.

Higgins is no stranger to the NY-Penn League.  Prior to joining the Yankees in 2000, he managed the Vermont Expos from 1996-1997 and led the Montreal farm team to a NY-Penn League title in 1996.  He also garnered NY-Penn League Manager of the Year honors that season.

Other than the Montreal Expos, Higgins also spent time working with the San Francisco Giants and the Sonoma Crushers of the independent Western Baseball League.

He is currently the head coach at American River College in Sacramento, CA. where his is in his 17th season at the helm of the Bears' baseball program.  In his 16 years as a head coach, Higgins' has had 13 winning seasons, including six years with 30 or more wins, and has made the playoffs in all but three seasons.  He has posted a 414-270-2 career record (.603 winning percentage).

Higgins was a first baseman for Cal State Northridge in 1975 before transferring to Sacramento State, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration.  After graduation, he played professionally in Stratford, Ontario, Canada.  He then spent one year as a graduate assistant at South Dakota State, earning his Master's Degree in Physical Education in 1984.

Higgins and his wife, Angie, live in Sacramento and have two daughters, Megan and Emily.
