Staten Island, NY - The NY-Penn League announced that Jason Arnold has been named TOPPS Player of the Month of the Month of July. He was selected by the Field Managers of each of the NY-Penn League teams, receiving the most votes out of seven write-in candidates.
Arnold was 5-0 in the month, earning a victory in each of his five starts. On July 27, he pitched a no-hitter against the Vermont Expos, the first in Staten Island Yankee history. Arnold pitched 35.0 innings in five starts, posting a 0.77 ERA and holding opponents to a .097 batting average. He struck out 41 in the month. He has remained in the top ten among all NY-Penn League pitchers throughout the season, leading in strikeouts.
The ace of the Yankees’ pitching staff is a product of the University of Central
Florida. He was selected by the Yankees this year in the second round of the June 2001 free-agent draft.
